According to the workshop manual, a 2023 model year Transit equipped with a 3.5L Duratec V6 takes 12 quarts (11.36 litres) of 5W30. Yet, the same model year of Transit equipped with a 3.5L Ecoboost V6 takes only 6.0 quarts (5.7 litres) of 5W30!!!

I've driven a the old 2.5 Duratec in the Contour, and the current 3.0 in the Taurus, and neither one feels or sounds as good as the Mazda's. The Mazda's strength is once you get going, plowing through curves and making the most of the engine's powerband. The stock Ford version of the engine wouldn't work as well in that context.
The 3.3 is a direct injected version of the cyclone and duratec engines (3.7 and 3.5 respectively) There has been some other revisions. I don't know exactly what all has changed as Ford is busy trumpeting the next crazy level of power the EcoBoost engines are making. Should be pretty reliable.
The question has come up over at The Ranger Station several times about swapping the 3.0 vulcan used in the ranger and explorers for a 3.0 duratec used in the taurus/sable and escapes. There are inherent problems with using a FWD engine in a RWD application, but most of those are easy enough to overcome.
Engine is called the Duratec 30, my version makes 200hp, 2009 updated to 240hp. Engine was originally made by Porsche but they ran out of money so they sold it to Ford and Cosworth in the mid 90s. Used in the Mondeo ST200 and ST220 which is one of the few cars Jeremy, Richard, and James from Top Gear/Grand Tour all like.
The 2.5L is a good engine although its getting long in tooth, but a work horse for sure. Its also port injected (wet intake valve) not direct injected (dry intake valve) like the ecoboost engines so the carbon build-up one the back of the intake valve won't be an issue as the fuel injected in the intake port tends to keep the backside of intake valve cleaned off.
The base engine was the 160 hp (119 kW) Mazda-designed 2.3 L Duratec 23 I4, paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission, both also designed by Mazda.
